MASSACHUSETTS---Though Palestinians still don’t have their homeland, one family comes alive in all its complex humanity in a powerful exhibit at Brandeis University in Waltham. In "
100 Steps to the Mediterranean,’’ artist
Dor Guez transports visitors at the Rose Art Museum into the living room of his extended family through videos that give a voice to the Christian Arab minority of a Jewish nation. Combining four videos, archival photographs and striking lightbox images, Guez constructs a multilayered installation that provides a living context – historical, social and cultural – for the Monayer family that demands empathy and redress for their marginalization. If they feel uncomfortable, Guez has achieved his goal. [
