EXAMINER

INDIANA---Considering the polarization that exists as a result of the current presidential campaign, the Encore Vocal Arts concert entitled “I Hear America Singing,” seen Saturday, Oct. 6 at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church on Indianapolis’ north side, was a refreshing and uplifting reminder that despite our political differences we Americans have the same rich musical history. Led for the first time by new artistic director Gregory Ristow, Encore was joined in the concert by Techoir of Arsenal Technical High School, directed by Kandis Brown. Meant to reflect the diversity of America’s population, the varied program consisted of Native American songs, those by African American composers, one by Irving Berlin and others. Performing in the church’s sanctuary, the sounds produced by the choirs and musicians were marvelously enhanced by the ideal acoustics that make the building popular for concerts.
