What can you do to get personal peace? At the edge of Long Island (Queens), across the water from my former apartment in NYC's Upper East Side floats an answer: "Floating Echo" by Chang-Jin Lee. The peacefulness of this 10-foot tall inflatable, clear plastic Buddha statue radiates from inside, appearing both present and absent; of the landscape but not of it. Through it the Buddha's message that, "Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without" rings clear. "Floating Echo" is on view at Socrates Sculpture Park through March 2013. It's Religious Art as a path to peace, and that's why "Floating Echo" is my NEWS OF WEEK.
