ALPHA OMEGA ARTS
By Gregory Disney
Disney's latest, "Frankenweenie" directed by Tim Burton isn't one of his best, but it is a pleasantly energetic animated film about a boy and his dog, but with a theologicial message too. In 1818, when Mary Shelly's first edition of "Frankenstein, A Modern Prometheus" was published there was lots of discussion about resurrection, science vs. God, and the misguided efforts of the good intended. Back then, that was the framework of many a Victorian era debate. Today, for most of us that debate has gone away. Burton's film covers the same themes as the original novel but in the end the science guided-by-selfishness creations are destroyed, while the science guided-by-love creation wins out. ★★★
